Saharas Aamby Valley to go green ith Japanese help [11th Jan 2010, The Economic Times]

SAHARA Groups premier township in Maharashtra-Aamby Valley has been selected by Japanese government as one of the two cities in the world to be developed as an eco-friendly city.

Aamby Valley is one of the two cities in the world selected by the Japanese government, the other being in China, to be developed as a model eco-friendly city, Aamby Valley Head Seemanto Roy said. The sprawling township, located near the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, will benefit from the Japanese collaboration in energy generation through renewable sources like wind and solar and waste recycling.

Under the collaboration, the Japanese government will also help the township, about 130 kms from here, to develop technologies for waste water recycling and reduction of carbon emission. As part of the collaboration, a Japanese delegation is likely to visit India early next month to sign various agreements to take forward the project, Roy said. Aamby Valley City last week hosted the high-powered round table on `India-Japan : ICT &Environment Opportunities and Challenges , where business leaders from both countries discussed plans to improve multi-level bilateral collaboration.
